Orthodontic treatment is one of the most frequent enquiries we get at White Oak — and also one of the most confusing to price-compare. A quick Google search for "braces cost Ranchi" gives you a range from ₹15,000 to ₹1,50,000. That's not a typo. The range is genuinely that wide, and understanding why is important before you commit to a treatment plan.
The three main orthodontic options and their costs in Ranchi
| Option | Cost at White Oak | Duration | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal braces | From ₹35,000 | 12–24 months | All complexity levels; most cost-effective |
| Ceramic (tooth-coloured) braces | From ₹42,000 | 12–24 months | Same control as metal; less visible |
| Clear aligners | From ₹45,000 | 6–18 months | Mild–moderate cases; adults wanting discretion |
All prices at White Oak include the full treatment — initial records (X-rays, photographs, impressions or digital scan), all bracket placements, all adjustment visits throughout treatment, retainers on completion (fixed + removable), and follow-up. There is no hidden cost per appointment.
What makes prices vary so widely across Ranchi clinics?
What's included vs. excluded. Some clinics quote a low per-arch price (e.g. ₹12,000 per jaw) that excludes follow-up appointments, retainers, and X-rays. By the time treatment is complete, the total significantly exceeds what a transparent all-in price would have been.
Bracket quality. Brackets range from very basic domestic brands to internationally certified orthodontic systems. Higher-quality brackets hold their torque values better, which means more predictable tooth movement and fewer breakages. Breakages that require re-bonding can cost ₹500–1,000 each time.
Whether retainers are included. Retainers are not optional after orthodontic treatment — they're essential to hold your result. If retainers aren't included in the quoted price, ask what they cost separately. At White Oak, retainers are included in all orthodontic plans.
The orthodontist's qualification and case complexity assessment. A dentist without specialist training can place braces, but complex bite corrections and skeletal discrepancies require orthodontic experience to diagnose and manage correctly. The case should be reviewed with a full set of records (OPG, lateral cephalogram, models) before treatment begins.
Metal vs. ceramic vs. clear aligners — which should you choose?
Metal braces are the most time-tested option with the widest evidence base. They give the orthodontist maximum control over tooth movement, work for simple and complex cases alike, and are the most cost-effective. The main downside is visibility — they're noticeable, especially in adults.
Ceramic braces look significantly less obvious than metal — the brackets are tooth-coloured, and we can use tooth-coloured wires as well. They give essentially the same clinical control as metal for most cases. They can stain slightly if you consume a lot of tea, coffee, or turmeric, but this is manageable with good hygiene.
Clear aligners are removable trays that are changed every 1–2 weeks. They're nearly invisible, have no dietary restrictions (because you take them out to eat), and are more comfortable than braces for most patients. Their limitation is compliance — the trays must be worn 20–22 hours a day. Patients who remove them frequently will have slower, less predictable results. They also work best for mild to moderate crowding and spacing; very complex bite corrections may still require braces.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Average treatment time:
- Mild crowding or spacing — 6–12 months (clear aligners often fastest here)
- Moderate cases — 12–18 months
- Complex bite corrections or significant crowding — 18–24 months
Treatment time depends more on case complexity than on which appliance you choose. Clear aligners are not necessarily faster than braces — the marketing suggests otherwise, but the tooth biology is the same regardless of what's moving the teeth.
Can adults get braces?
Absolutely. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. Bone physiology changes slightly with age — treatment may take slightly longer in adults over 35 compared to teenagers — but the outcomes are equivalent. Over 40% of our orthodontic patients are adults. Many are professionals who prefer clear aligners for the discretion they offer.
What happens after braces come off?
Retention is as important as the active treatment phase. Without retainers, teeth drift back toward their original positions — this is a biological certainty, not a failure of your treatment. We provide:
- Fixed retainers — thin wire bonded to the back of your front teeth. Invisible. No effort required. Keeps teeth stable long-term.
- Removable retainers — worn at night indefinitely. Provides an additional layer of retention and is easy to clean.
Both are included in our orthodontic pricing.
Getting started
The first step is an orthodontic consultation — we'll take your records, assess your bite and crowding, and give you a written treatment plan with the exact cost for your recommended option. There's no obligation, and you can take the plan home to consider.
